my guiding principles
Bend, don't break
A psychologist one of my families worked with mentioned this. It applies to almost every situation. We meet each child where he is, and bend him ever so carefully to help him grow. Don't expect parents to teach what we do not A pioneer in mathematics said this during a workshop. If something comes home that presents a challenge to your child to the point of frustration or that she is unable to do, simply let me know. |
Believe in him, until he believes in himself
Working with fifth graders facing many challenges in and out of school, this was put to the test. But in my heart, I knew that if I kept believing in them and their abilities, my voice would eventually become their own. They would believe as fiercely in themselves as I did. And they did. Don't forget to laugh I love what I do. And I take it very seriously. But there is immense power in laughter and fun. |
