the great debate
There are generally two schools of thought when it comes to homework. Proponents tout its benefits in developing student accountability, reinforcing skills learned at school and providing a link between home and school. On the flip side, opponents question its efficacy and urge parents to make more time for kids to play and be, well, kids.
Holding kids accountable and giving them responsibilities is absolutely important. While that is true, our kids have a long school day and work HARD. Their brains need time to absorb all they've learned and can become over-saturated when we cram too much in. Think of a sponge that's been dropped into a full bucket. Homework that results in crying and frustration is never productive. And who wants to cry in front of their kids? So let's avoid that at all costs. |
